Did the Syrian authorities deny the detention of American journalist Austin Tice? He was last seen blindfolded in a video posted online after his capture.
US President Joe Biden said the US is confident that a US journalist who was kidnapped ten years ago is being held by the Syrian government.
According to his family, Austin Tice, a former Marine, was captured on August 14, 2012, near the Syrian capital, Damascus, while following the country’s civil war.
“We know for sure that he was detained by the Syrian regime,” Biden said. He urged Syria to “work with us so we can bring Austin home.”

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad did not confirm whether Tice was held by his government. Earlier, other senior Syrian officials denied the journalist’s detention.
No group claimed responsibility for his capture and his whereabouts are not publicly known.
Tice turned 41 on August 11, and her abduction is one of the longest-running incidents involving American citizens. He was most recently seen blindfolded and apparently struggling, in a video posted online weeks after his capture.
His mother, Debra Tice, told the political news site Axios what the relationship of American basketball star Brittney Griner was. For whom did the US offer Russia a prisoner exchange? it shows “how things work when the government has will”.
‘Show me’
Debra Tice recently told CBS News that the Biden administration has not done enough to work with Syria to bring her son home.
“The U.S. government has worked hard to convince me it’s working on it,” he said. “My answer: don’t tell me. Show me.”
Two Trump administration officials traveled to Syria two years ago to bring Austin Tice home. They returned after the Syrian authorities refused to negotiate as long as the American troops remained in the country.
The journalist’s mother wants to know why the negotiations are not going on.
“I know the US government has not requested direct talks with the Syrian government,” he said.
President Biden’s statement apparently referred to Tice’s meeting with his family at the White House in May, stating that he had “promised” them and the American people to repatriate U.S. citizens wrongfully detained abroad.
“The Tice family deserves answers, and most importantly, a quick reunion with Austin,” Biden said. Said.
