Controversial doping control begins for deputies in Chile

The Chamber of Deputies of Chile defined by the lot as the first group of 78 legislators who will undergo a drug test, in the wake of an initiative that requires them to take the test at least twice during their four-year term.

The initiative was incorporated in the internal regulations and seeks to exclude any relationship between the parliamentary organ and the drug trafficking networks, as well as raising the standards of transparency in the organ’s work.

The Speaker of the House, Raúl Soto (Party for Democracy), and the parliamentarians Diego Schalper (National Renewal), Maite Orsini (Democratic Revolution), Juan Antonio Coloma (Independent Democratic Union) and Emilia Schneider (Municipalities), are just some of those that make up the list of 78 politicians who must undergo the test in the laboratory of the University of Chile between 22 and 30 August next.

Soto explained it the test result takes 10 to 15 days and announced that the group that was not drawn on this occasion should take the test at the end of September.

The results

In this sense, Soto stressed that “within a maximum period of two months, all parliamentarians will have to undergo this drug test”, in statements to the TVN channel.

The measure is part of a new regulation of the organ, and indicates that the examination it will be periodic and randomwith the idea that all parliamentarians should do it twice during their four-year term.

The test results will be public and the parliamentarians will test positive they must give the authorization to revoke the banking secrecyand in the event that there is a transaction over approximately $ 30,000, it must be justified.

If this is not possible, the information will be transmitted to the Ethics and Transparency Commission of the Chamber or to the Public Prosecutor.

Negative
