The city’s mayor denounced the “two idiots” and called for giving mayors more power to fight the practice, while the canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Water skiing on the Venice canal? This is the funny idea that two young people in Italy had. The scene, captured on video, was shared on Twitter on Wednesday by the city’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro. Angry, the elected official denounces “two arrogant idiots” and calls to fight against such practices that, according to him, degrade the image of the city, while tourists return in large numbers to the famous city of Veneto.

“Here are two arrogant idiots making fun of the city. I ask everyone to help us identify them to punish them, ”she asks.

In the video shared by Luigi Brugnaro, two young people are seen water skiing on the Grand Canal in Venice, pulled by a speedboat. They pass under the famous Rialto Bridge, before passing by the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site

Visibly incapable of fighting the phenomenon, the mayor appeals: “it is urgent to give mayors more powers in matters of public security.”

The chosen one adds in his tweet that “he offers a dinner” to those who will help find the culprits of this unlikely scene. The unexpected scene seems shocking in a place recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

1500 euros fine and expulsion from the city

After his first tweet, Luigi Brugnaro announced Wednesday at noon that he had identified the two men.

“The two boards have already been confiscated and soon, without giving more details, those responsible will be in our arms: they will be denounced as they deserve,” he rejoices.

According to the Venetian newspaper The Gazzettinothe two people were also fined €1,500 each for endangering the safety of navigation on the canal and were immediately expelled from Venice.

The city has also contacted lawyers and plans to sue the duo for damaging Venice’s image. The story does not say, however, if a lucky person was entitled to a meal offered by the mayor of the city.
