The man who died in the shooting at a shopping center on Friday in Malmö, southern Sweden, was allegedly the target of the attack, police in the city announced on Saturday.
“Currently, everything suggests that this man was the target of this execution,” Malmö police chief Petra Stenkula told a news conference.
One person was also injured in the shooting, which occurred Friday afternoon. She is a woman, hospitalized in serious condition and who would be a simple passer-by according to the police.
Terrorist motive ruled out
A 15-year-old boy was arrested Friday on suspicion of the shooting. Police consider the attack “an isolated incident linked to criminal circles” and exclude terrorist motivation, a Malmö police spokeswoman told AFP at the time.
“Shooting in a shopping center is terribly ruthless, with total disregard for the lives of others,” Social Democrat Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said Saturday afternoon during a press conference and a visit to Malmö as part of her election campaign. .
