Russian officials said Ukraine attacked Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Crimea with drones on Saturday.
Telegram, the governor of the Sevastopol region aligned with the Kremlin, denied that the attack destroyed the fleet, but did not give further details about the extent of the damage. He claimed that the UAV hit the roof of the military base and was subsequently destroyed. There were no casualties.
Images of black smoke from the attack were posted on social media.
Ukraine’s new offensive on Crimea, which was illegally captured by the Russians in 2014, comes days after explosions hit an ammunition depot in the same area.
The Black Sea Fleet, which has a respected history in Russia, has suffered losses since President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion of Ukraine on February 28, which Moscow calls a “special military operation”.
In April, Ukraine hit the iconic Moscow, a large cruiser, with Neptune missiles. It was the largest warship sunk in 40 years.

The British Ministry of Defense said these actions would raise the concerns of Russian commanders in Crimea as the peninsula functions as a “back base” for the offensive.
As the conflict progresses, many Ukrainians not only reclaim pre-invasion positions, but also want Crimea.
“Most citizens of the terrorist state [Rússia] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily message on Tuesday that they are beginning to realize that Crimea is not the place for them.
