Controversy in Finland: negative drug test for Prime Minister Sanna Marin

Sanna Marin had been accused of adopting behavior considered incompatible with her duties as prime minister after the broadcast of a video in which she appeared dancing with some friends.

Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin has taken a drug test after a controversial video surfaced last week, the Finnish government says. via a declaration.

Sanna Marin reaffirmed on Friday that she had never used drugs after a video of the young woman partying with friends sparked criticism. Widely shared on social media and published by various outlets, the video shows the prime minister, 36, dancing without restraint with a group of people.

Some had interpreted the comments heard on the video as a reference to narcotics, which had been the subject of heated debate on social media and strongly opposed by the Prime Minister.

“To allay any suspicion, I took a drug test today,” Sanna Marin told reporters on Friday.

The prime minister had previously said that she had “spent an evening with friends” and that the videos “had been shot in private locations”.

She had admitted to drinking alcohol. In addition to having denied having used drugs, she added that she had not witnessed any drug use by those present.

Sanna Marin, appointed prime minister in 2019, had previously come under fire after parties at her official residence.

In December 2021, she came under heavy criticism when it was revealed that she had danced the night away while exposed to covid-19.

A survey commissioned by the Finnish television channel MTV3 at the time showed that two-thirds of those questioned considered their evening a “serious mistake”.
