Stockholm police said on Monday they destroyed a bag containing explosives found in a park in the Swedish capital on Sunday night and are investigating the incident.

The incident took place less than three weeks before the 9/11 general election, when crime was a major issue among voters.

“Police are assessing that the bag found in Kungstradgarden on Sunday contained explosives,” police said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation has been opened and no arrests have been made so far. Police did not disclose who may have planted the device or a possible target and declined to comment further.

Security forces did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The park in central Stockholm, where the explosive device is located, was one of the venues for the city’s annual Cultural Festival, held from 17 to 21 August, and hosts concerts, family events and events such as sumo wrestling.

While the area was surrounded by security, bomb disposal teams neutralized the bag. Police said authorities conducted a forensic examination early Monday morning.

“All components will now be examined,” Norrmalm district police chief Erik Akerlund said in a statement. Said.
