Pope Francis said he would accept an invitation to visit North Korea.
The statement was given in an interview with South Korean broadcaster KBS, who asked the Pope if he would like to travel to the communist country.
The leader of the Catholic Church said, “When they invite me… When I say this, I say, ‘Invite me, I will not deny it.’ The aim is always brotherhood.”
“With all my heart, to all Koreans, from the South or the North: my desire for blessing and peace,” Francis said. This isn’t the first time the Pope has offered to visit North Korea, but Kim Jong-un’s regime has never made an official invitation.
The South Korean government itself has already said that a final mission of Jorge Bergoglio to Pyongyang will contribute to peace on the peninsula.
Francis visited the South in August 2014 while celebrating a rite of reunification with the North.
