Zaporizhia power plant disconnected: an “unacceptable” diversion attempt, warns Washington

While the Ukrainian atomic agency assured Thursday afternoon that the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant had been disconnected from the national electricity grid by the Russians who occupied the site, the United States reacted. Without confirming the information, the State Department warned that such diversion would be “unacceptable.”

US diplomacy warned on Thursday that any Russian attempt to divert nuclear energy from Ukraine, where the Zaporizhia power plant has been disconnected from the national grid according to its operator, would be “unacceptable”.

“The electricity it generates rightfully belongs to Ukraine and any attempt to disconnect the plant from the Ukrainian grid to redirect (electricity) to occupied areas is unacceptable,” Vedant Patel, a State Department spokesman, told reporters.
