A man rushes into his house, pursued by another who shoots indiscriminately. His bullets hit the 46-year-old woman who is wounded. Her 9-year-old daughter, Olivia Pratt-Korbel, standing right behind her, is also affected. She does not survive the gunshots.

Olivia’s family paid tribute to the little girl on Thursday, describing her as “a unique, talkative and curious child.” Her death is the third by firearm that has occurred in Liverpool in less than a week, according to The Guardian.

“Find out who took our baby from us”

After the murder of the girl, the police made a call to the public on Tuesday to find the author of the shots.

“It’s time we all made Merseyside a place where the use of guns on our streets is completely unacceptable and those who use them are held accountable,” says local police officer Mark Kameen in a press release.

Earlier this week, her family asked anyone with information about Olivia’s murder to “speak up” to “find out who took our baby from us.”

An “unimaginable tragedy”

Olivia’s death quickly causes a stir in the town. “What side are you on?” asks a local newspaper, the liverpool ecobegging his readers not to “leave town to the thugs.”

Liverpool Mayor Joanne Anderson is outraged by a “heinous act” that occurred at her home, “the place where (Olivia) should feel safest.”

The case then took on a national dimension, prompting Prime Minister Boris Johnson to react in turn, lamenting an “unimaginable tragedy” on Twitter.

The 35-year-old man, who was the first to enter the house, was shot during the attack. Transported to the hospital by his friends who had left the girl behind, he has since been arrested for violating the conditions of his release from prison.
