A van crashed into a terrace in central Brussels shortly before 1pm on Friday, reports The night. The accident happened on rue Saint-Michel. The driver of the vehicle fled and is wanted by the police.
The accident left six minor injuries. Evacuation to hospital was not considered necessary. The witnesses, some in a state of shock, were treated. “All the people who witnessed this accident were taken to the police station for a hearing. They are tourists, municipal employees, residents and Belgians who visit the capital”, explains the mayor of Brussels, Philippe Close.
A helicopter mobilizes to find the driver
“A delivery van entered rue Saint-Michel, turned around on this same street and rushed towards the terrace of an establishment,” the mayor reports again. “After the collision, the driver fled in his van. He is currently wanted ”, adds the Local Police, indicating that a helicopter was deployed to locate the driver.
Questioned by the Belgian media, the mayor of the city has not yet ruled on the intentional nature or not of the act.
“The truth is that the vehicle was traveling at a very high speed and that it was heading to the terrace, but I will not draw conclusions before the investigators. […] I hope the perpetrator is identified very quickly, but I think he’s on the right track,” he said.
