Putin Offers Money to Ukrainian Refugees to Move to Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on Saturday on monthly subsidies and one-time payments to refugees migrating from Donbass and Ukraine.

According to the Tass agency, certain categories of people, including the disabled and those over 80 years old, will receive 10 thousand rubles in monthly payments.

The decree also stipulates that pregnant women will be entitled to a single amount of a similar amount.

According to Ukrainian and Russian officials, about 2 million refugees from Ukraine have been sent to Russia since the start of the war on February 24.

Recently, an Associated Press investigation showed that several Ukrainian refugees were promised payment and Russian citizenship to move to Vladimir Putin’s territory.

But while the Kyiv government claims these transfers are forced displacements that are considered war crimes, Russia says the actions are humanitarian withdrawals from victims who are grateful for the opportunity.
