AQUILA, AUGUST 27 (ANSA) – Three teenagers were struck by lightning this Saturday (27), during a trip to the Campo Imperatore astronomical observatory on Mount Gran Sasso in the Abruzzo region.
According to preliminary information, two of them were blown off, and the third was struck by lightning. The three of them were walking near the hotel when a strong storm started to build up.
Rescue teams, who came to the scene, made the first response despite the harsh weather conditions on the mountain.
The injured youth, determined to be 28-year-old Simone Toni, was revived and taken to L’Aquila Hospital by helicopter in a serious condition.
According to testimonies, lightning would strike around 12:30 p.m. (local time) at a time when heavy lightning activity was unpredictable.
Yesterday (26) two cyclists, including businessman Alberto Balocco, CEO of the confectionery company of the same name, were found dead after being struck by lightning in the mountains of Turin in northern Italy.
