Netherlands: a truck rams a group, at least two dead

The accident occurred in the early afternoon of Saturday when the truck with a Spanish license plate left the road in Zuidzijdsedijk, some 30 km south of Rotterdam.

At least two people were killed and several more were injured in a town near Rotterdam on Saturday after a truck veered off the road and hit a group dining outside, Dutch police said.

The accident occurred in the early afternoon when the truck with a Spanish license plate left the road in Zuidzijdsedijk, some 30 km south of Rotterdam.

“The truck ran over a group of people who were attending a barbecue in the neighborhood,” the Rotterdam police said on their Twitter account.

The arrested driver

A police officer present at the scene told local Rijnmond radio that “at least two people were killed” but that police were still on the scene to establish a final balance.

Photographs taken after the accident identified the truck as belonging to the Spanish company El Mosca.

The truck driver, who was not injured, was arrested and taken into custody, NOS radio said.
