The Russian intelligence service has identified a second Ukrainian accused of involvement in the murder of journalist and political analyst Darya Dugina, who was the victim of an attack outside Moscow on 20 August.
According to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), this is Bodan Petrovich Tsyganenko, 44, who allegedly provided cold plates and forged documents to Natalia Pavlovna Vovk, the author of the attack’s material.
According to the FSB, Tsyganenko made the bomb used in the attack. He reportedly entered Russia from Estonia on July 30 and left the country the day before the death of Dugina, daughter of prominent ultranationalist philosopher Alexander Dugin.
The political analyst fell victim to an explosive device planted in the car he was driving – a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in Dugin’s name – and set off from afar.
The crime took place on the way back from a festival where Dugina’s father attended as the guest of honor, passing through the village of Velyki Vyazomi on the outskirts of Moscow.
The journalist and philosopher were supposed to travel in the same car, but at the last moment Dugin would decide to go in a separate car. According to the FSB, the attack was planned by the Ukrainian secret services, which denied any involvement in the incident.
Dugin is known for his anti-Western and far-right views, and in recent years he has come to be described by the European and American press as one of the inspirations of Vladimir Putin’s ultranationalist foreign policy, although the Russian media has seen him as a “stranger”. ” figure.
Meanwhile, Dugina was a prominent political analyst and supporter of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which led to sanctions against him by the United States and the United Kingdom.
