“During the day, on the direct order of (Ukrainian President) Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian troops carried out an attempted offensive in three directions, in the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“This new attempt at offensive operations by the enemy has failed miserably,” he said.

“The enemy has lost more than 50 soldiers”, according to Russia

According to the ministry, “Ukrainian army units suffered heavy losses due to active defense by Russian troops.”

In this press release, the Russian military says that it destroyed 26 tanks, 32 armored vehicles and two Su-25 attack aircraft of the Ukrainian army. “The enemy has lost more than 560 soldiers,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. AFP was unable to confirm these statements from an independent source.

Hours earlier, local Ukrainian authorities said Kyiv forces had launched a counteroffensive in the south, intending to drive Russian troops back across the Dnieper River and retake the occupied city of Kherson.
