ANSA – Brazilian Russians accuse Ukraine of attacking Kherson and the area near the plant 30.08.2022 16:44

Pro-Russian officials controlling the area said Ukrainian forces carried out 17 artillery strikes on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant area on Tuesday, 30 with US-made large-caliber weapons, Tass reported. Agency.

In recent weeks, Moscow and Kyiv have made mutual accusations of attacks by technicians from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) near the plant, whose monitoring mission is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

In addition, pro-Russian officials controlling the Kherson region claimed that Ukrainian troops bombed the city of Nova Kakhovka “seven or eight times”, and the attacks continued, according to Tass news agency.

Yesterday, Kyiv announced that it had launched a counterattack to take the leadership of the region from the Russian government. But the Russian leader in Crimea, Serghei Aksyonov, said the operation was “false news of Ukrainian propaganda” and on the contrary, Ukrainians suffered “excessive losses in the south and in all other sectors”.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov also announced that the Ukrainian army had lost more than 1,200 soldiers in the last 24 hours in an attempt to launch an offensive in the Mikolayev-Krivoi Rog region, a few tens of kilometers north of Kherson.

Earlier today, Olensky Arestovych, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, even talked about the ongoing fierce fighting “almost throughout the Kherson region”.

According to him, Ukrainian troops breached the Russian defenses in several areas near the city of Kherson, and also bombarded the ferries that Moscow used to supply the occupied territory on the western bank of the Dnieper River.

“After the attacks, an 80-year-old woman died and an elderly man was hospitalized. Others received medical care at the scene,” said Vladimir Leontyev, who was appointed head of Moscow’s local government.

According to him, “at least eight houses were completely destroyed, more than 35 were damaged, and a gas pipeline and some local power lines were destroyed.” Shortly thereafter, Leontyev assured that the interruptions in the water and electricity supply were resolved.
