A 93-year-old woman died in a nursing home in California, and two other elderly people were hospitalized because they drank detergents instead of juice.
The case was registered at Atria Park Senior Nursing Home, where Gertrude Elizabeth Murison Maxwell, a dementia patient, is staying.
Gertrude’s family said they were aware of the incident, saying that an employee at the nursing home was rescued after ingesting “a substance”.
At first, the nursing home reported that the woman and other elderly people swallowed “alkaline cleaning agent” alone, a version the family didn’t believe.
“My mom, like many people, needs you to hold a glass to her mouth to swallow something,” Gertrude’s daughter Marcia Cutchin told KTLA in an interview.
But in an official position, the hospice has returned and admitted the mistake.
“We can confirm that three of our residents were hospitalized after being accidentally offered detergent instead of juice. We are working with local authorities who notified us that one resident passed away. We offer our deepest condolences to his family.” said home. rest.
The health status of the other two elderly people who were taken to the hospital was not disclosed.
