US federal agents and law enforcement searched two New York properties of Russian billionaire Viktor Vekselberg, a close ally of sanctioned President Vladimir Putin, on Thursday, NBC News reported.
According to the network, officers were seen carrying boxes after they left an apartment on Manhattan’s posh Park Avenue and a home in the Hamptons, a luxury resort near New York.
NBC said both properties were linked to Vekselberg, citing U.S. Treasury documents.
Authorities are also looking for a property believed to be linked to Vekselberg on Miami’s Fisher Island, NBC reported.
Vekselberg is the chairman of Grupo Renova, a Moscow-based conglomerate, and one of the Russian billionaires who was the target of sanctions after Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
The sanctions froze Vekselberg’s assets in the United States and prevented American companies from doing business with him and his companies.
