Researchers in the United States were surprised by a very strange discovery. In an X-ray of a snake native to the area known as the water moccasin, it was possible to observe the corpse of another snake thought to be invasive: Burmese python.

The image was released by the Miami Zoo. According to the agency, the discovery began after scientists launched a study when they learned that a lynx had consumed python eggs in the Everglades, a reserve. Swamp in Florida.

To find out what happened, the researchers tried to track down the snakes, but not one was found. In a second experiment, the scientists noticed that it was actually swallowed by a slightly taller domestic snake.

According to the Miami Zoo, the water moccasin was about 1.1 meters long, while the python was only 1 meter.

Thanks to X-ray examination, the scientists were able to see the python’s own tracking device, which, in addition to the overlapping snakes, was also swallowed by the water moccasin.

Studies indicate that Burmese pythons are in a variety of Florida habitats and are semi-aquatic. Despite the newborn’s relatively large size, the researchers realized that the species is still vulnerable to predation.
