Young 21-year-old Molly Hunt was an avid college party goer and would often suffer from hangovers. However, after a medical consultation, she discovered that what she was feeling were actually signs of blood cancer.
College student from Chesham city in Buckinghamshire (England) reported his diagnostic saga on TikTok.
Molly suffers from Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system that plays a role in the body’s immune defense. According to the British Kennedy News, unlike most cancers that affect the elderly, this unusual disease tends to occur between the ages of 20 and 40.
He explained to the British tabloid newspaper The Sun that he always felt a great pain in his stomach after the holidays and that he felt extremely tired.
“Sometimes I thought it was a hangover and sometimes I attributed it to the workload at university and I thought I was overreacting. I found myself going to class less and less because I was so tired,” she said.
Molly claims she woke up at 1am and even missed classes at the university. But the sophomore aviation student believed his body was still getting used to the new routine.
“I was a little scared going out alone without my friends and boyfriend Harry because fatigue would hit me all of a sudden,” she recalled.
discovery
In February 2021, four months after the onset of symptoms, Molly noticed a “two grape-size” lump on her collarbone. She’s skin also began to itch, and she felt she had to “burpe a lot.”
So the young woman went to the doctor and did some blood tests and also from an developed lump on her neck to reactive lymph nodes.
Because it didn’t go away in 15 days, Molly was referred for a two-week cancer treatment and sent for an ultrasound, but during that time she developed a second lump.
While doing the ultrasound, the doctors reported that this mass was very large and they did a biopsy. With the diagnosis read by the girl’s father, it took a full month for the results to come.
“Monday came back from work and had one of the best work days of my life and my dad said to me, ‘Can you come to the room with Harry and me?’ said.
Molly claims that she cried a lot and that it was “the hardest thing I’ve ever heard in my life.” Two days later, on June 1, he went to the doctor and was officially diagnosed. At first ‘Am I going to die?’ I thought. Has my life completely changed forever?” she said.
The young woman, who developed an 8 cm mass in her chest, started chemotherapy on 20 June. It was supposed to be 12 sessions, but after five she got the good news that she was in remission but would need radiation.
“Mentally it was really tough because every day is the same thing – the fear of the unknown and what will happen next. It has affected my life so much and it hurt my heart for my family. I think it really affected me. I’m constantly checking my temperature, blood pressure and oxygen levels. I’m having my nightmare.”
But Molly says she loves to travel and is nevertheless excited about the future. In her TikTok videos, she raises money for Lymphoma Action, a British charity dedicated to lymphoma.
“My message to everyone is that no one knows your body like you do and if you know something is wrong, check it out because it could definitely save your life.”
