An American body modification fan had 2,123 puzzle pieces tattooed on his arms, legs, back, torso, neck and head, including his hands and feet. Record-breaking Paul Lawrence calls himself Enigma and continues to perform today as an artist, actor and performer.

On his website, he advertises live performances where he performs daring stunts with fire, swords, knives and even power tools. Enigma became particularly known for a daring stunt in which he held an apple in his mouth and cut it in half with a chainsaw.

In 2011, the American artist managed to break the official record for the most puzzle pieces tattooed on a single body. It took three hours for the judges to count the 2,123 tattoos.

As previously reported by the British newspaper Daily Star, authorities determined that only tattoos with clearly inked edges would be included in the count, ignoring those that had faded. This makes the number of puzzle pieces painted on his body much higher than the official count.

While most of Enigma’s tattoos were painted in blue ink, the white areas of his pupils were painted black. In addition to her unique tattoo display, Enigma has gone through several body modifications, including five flame piercings around her mouth and two horn-shaped implants on her head.

Even her ears have been modified to look like puzzle pieces to match the rest of her dramatic looks.

Enigma decided in late 1992 that it wanted to cover his body with forged puzzle pieces. The following year he began the grueling painting process that took more than a month to complete.

In an interview with British tabloid The Mirror, she opened up about her intense tattoo session for the first time: “It was a tough month. There were so many intense emotions”.

After performing with the Jim Rose Circus in the early 1990s, she has appeared at a number of high-profile events such as the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Nine Inch Nails’ 1994 Self Destruct Tour.

“HE [referindo-se à sua pele tatuada] is the back side of the puzzle. What is outside is also inside. Art is inside.”
