A 30-year-old woman was arrested after simulating her own kidnapping to blackmail her own mother for 50,000 euros (equivalent to R$256,000). The case was registered yesterday on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
In addition to the suspect, 4 other people who were relatives of his girlfriend were detained. All of them could have helped the victim in the extortion process.
A video of the fake kidnapping sent to the mother of the woman who was arrested over the weekend was released by the local civil guard.
It is possible to see an item inside the embezzler’s blindfold and mouth that looks like blood, indicating that the woman was caught and attacked. “If you want to see me live, you have to pay 50,000 euros to be free,” she says.
The Spanish police were called and activated the kidnapping protocols. According to officers, the victim’s banking transactions were analyzed and suspicions were expressed against the family of the scammer’s girlfriend.
While determining the whereabouts of the woman, who was extremely healthy in a kind of casino on the island, five suspects were detained at the scene. The moment of his arrest was videotaped and he was released by the Spanish Civil Guard.
According to police, the embezzler’s mother had fallen victim to the group three times when she received letters threatening her daughter and transferred a total of 45,000 euros (equivalent to R$230,000).
According to the Spanish newspaper El País, five detainees must respond to committing a crime (with a penalty of between six and 12 months) and extortion (a crime with a penalty of up to five years).
