Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin traveled to the far east of the country on Tuesday to watch the final episode of military exercises with the participation of several allied countries, including China.
Peskov said that Putin has arrived at the Sergeyevsky military base, where he will meet with Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of Staff Valeri Guerassimov.
The spokesperson said that after the meeting, Putin will observe the “final phase of the exercises”.
The military maneuvers, called Vostok-2022, began on September 1 and will continue until Wednesday, 7 at various training camps in Russia’s Far East and at sea in the region.
Moscow reported that more than 50,000 soldiers and more than 5,000 military equipment, including 140 aircraft and 60 ships, participated in the maneuvers.
Among the participating countries are Russia, as well as Syria, India, and several states neighboring to its important ally China.
Russia last held such exercises in 2018.
