British Prime Minister Liz Truss on Tuesday appointed the ministers who will form the new British Conservative government, including Therese Coffey, as health minister and deputy prime minister.

The 51-year-old politician led Truss’ campaign to conquer Downing Street and is a longtime ally of the new prime minister. “I’m really excited,” Coffey said.

The cabinet will consist of an unprecedented duo of women and multiethnic diversity among key ministry leaders.

Among them is Kwasi Kwarteng, 47, the new Chancellor of the Ministry of Finance. It will be responsible for the country’s finances as rising energy prices affect households and businesses in the country.

James Cleverly has assumed the post of Secretary of State and will replace Truss. His tenure is expected to focus on the ongoing war in Ukraine and the UK government’s plans to void parts of the Northern Ireland protocol – an element of the agreed Brexit deal with the EU.

Meanwhile, the new Home Secretary will be Suella Braverman, who will take over from Priti Patel, who says it is “vital” for her successor to continue his policies, including the controversial plan to send refugees to Rwanda.

Braverman previously served as attorney general in the Boris Johnson administration and was the first to announce his intention to run for the Conservative leadership earlier this year.

Also on the nominees list is Penny Mordaunt (City leader); Wendy Morton (Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury); Brandon Lewis (Justice Secretary); Nadhim Zahawi (Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs and Equality); Lord True (leader of the House of Lords); and Jake Berry (no folder).

The current British Defense Secretary, Ben Wallace, will remain in his post, which he has held since July 2019, which has already been praised for his response to the crisis in Ukraine.
