The Brazilian embassy in Paris was the target of a protest this Wednesday, marking 7 September. A group of angry Brazilians supported what they called a “political-artistic intervention” in the organ building in the country’s French capital.
Throughout Jair Bolsonaro’s government, the embassy has been the target of different demonstrations. Luis Fernando Serra, Brazil’s representative in France, is one of the main representatives of Bolsonarism in Itamaraty.
This time, the focus of the protest was democracy and the rule of law and defense against coup threats.
“Thus, shirts were placed on the building’s railings with statues evoking some of the most notorious torturers, such as Fleury, Paulo Malhães, Brilhante Ustra and his biggest fan, Jair Bolsonaro,” the Brazilian group said in a statement.
“The works were designed and painted by Marcia Tiburi, who officially opened her solo exhibition in the Mairie du 10th District that same afternoon,” they said.
Along with posters that read “Never Torture Again!”, “With the putschists”, “For democracy in Brazil”, the artifacts are used to denounce obscenity and show our solidarity with movements and their representatives in the fight against fascism. The extreme right in Brazil” completes the group.
The Brazilians are led by the Alerta França Brasil/MD-18 and Ubuntu Audiovisual movements.
But Paris will not be the only place where protests against Bolsonaro will take place. A call to action is being made by the Brazilian Women Against Fascism group in Barcelona. Ada Colau, the mayor of the city, will also attend the demonstration, which will be held in one of the main squares of the Catalan city.
A group in Switzerland is still planning a protest action against Bolsonaro in Geneva today, against human rights abuses and in defense of national sovereignty.
