In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a bridge that was inaugurated collapsed during the work’s opening ceremony. Country officials gathered on the bridge to officially inaugurate the tiny structure, which is less than two meters wide.
When the bridge collapsed and split in two, a red ribbon was tied and an employee was ready to cut it with scissors.
Local news agency Khaama Press reported that authorities managed to leave the scene quickly and no one was injured.
The small bridge was built to help residents cross the river during the rainy season, according to the Africa Facts Zone website, which shared the footage on Twitter.
The temporary structure that existed before the bridge was frequently broken down, causing people to die during the flood, according to residents.
A video showing the moment of the event caused many comments while circulating on social media.
Someone on Twitter criticized the government of the Republic of the Congo.
The text reads, “Don’t be surprised if this bridge costs more than a million dollars in taxpayer money. Here’s the Zimbabwean counterpart, the Zanu government’s honorable Patrick Chinamasa, who opened a dumpster.”
