LONDON (Reuters) – England’s King Charles made a personal statement during a historic ceremony Saturday where the new monarch was officially announced.
Here is the text of the personal statement:
“Ladies and gentlemen.
It is my most painful duty to announce to you the death of my beloved Mother, the Queen.
I know how much you sympathize with me for the irreparable loss that you, the entire nation – and I think the whole world – have suffered. It is my greatest comfort to know that so many have shown sympathy for my brothers and that such great love and support has been conveyed to our entire family in our loss.
To all of us as a family, to this kingdom and the larger family of nations of which it is a part, Mother gave an example of a lifetime of love and selfless service.
My mother’s reign was unmatched in its duration, dedication, and devotion.
I am deeply aware of this great legacy and the duties and heavy responsibilities of the Sovereignty that has now passed to me.
In assuming these responsibilities, I must seek to follow the inspiring example set before me in supporting constitutional government and seeking the peace, harmony and prosperity of the peoples of these islands and of the Commonwealth kingdoms and lands around the world.
To this end, I know that I will stand by the love and loyalty of the peoples whose rulers I am called to be, and that the council of their elected parliaments will guide me in the fulfillment of these duties. The continued support of my beloved wife is deeply encouraging.
I take this opportunity to reaffirm my will and intent to continue the tradition of transferring hereditary proceeds, including the Royal Mansion, to my Government for the benefit of all, in exchange for the Sovereign Subsidy supporting my official duties as Head of State. and Nation President.
And as I carry out this heavy duty that has been entrusted to me and to which I now dedicate the rest of my life, I beg God’s guidance and help.”
