18-year-old British student Oliver Chadwick suffers from severe dyslexia, which gave him a reading rating compared to a six-year-old. “My dyslexia affects me a lot, but also surprisingly little when I think about it. When people hear that you’re illiterate, they think you can’t do anything, but it only affects me day to day, when I can. Don’t read things like plaques,” she said.
Oliver’s mother, Sophie, 54, recalls in an interview with the site the first time she realized that Oliver wasn’t like the other kids. “We used to joke around every night when he started school when we asked Oliver at the dinner table what he had for lunch that day because he always said ‘potatoes and beans,'” she said.

Sophie said she goes to classes at the British association that takes care of dyslexia patients two hours a week on Saturdays to practice reading and writing, and that she needs to work part-time to help her learn at home.
“After a while, they said that there was no point in continuing the lessons because she wasn’t making progress. They were probably great for the other kids, but things weren’t going well for Oliver,” Sophie recalls. .
“I’ve spoken to two experts who have been doing their job for a long time since then, and they said he’s the most profoundly dyslexic person they’ve ever encountered. So when he went to high school, I decided to be us. He’s going to stop trying to teach.”
However, Oliver never lets his disability bother him, choosing to focus on his strengths.
When he attended the Ralph Allen School, Oliver spent most of his lessons listening to what the teacher had to say. He hired a co-teacher for some of his classes, but he said it was difficult when they changed.
“So I taught them from scratch what they needed to write,” says the student, who eventually succeeded in proving that her condition didn’t prevent her from progressing in her education. Oliver is now preparing to study Engineering Mathematics at the University of Bristol.
The student said, “There’s no use in being stressed. I try to stay very calm because there may be something we always forget in lessons. But you have to accept it and move on.”
