The Ukrainian military announced on Monday that it had recaptured “more than 20 sites” within 24 hours as part of its counteroffensive to push back the Russian army.

In the statement made by the army, it was stated that the liberation of the areas held by the Russian invaders in the Kharkov and Donetsk regions in the east of the country continues.

“Ukrainian forces managed to remove the enemy from more than 20 locations along the entire front line in 24 hours,” the note adds.

“During their retreat, Russian troops hastily left their positions and fled,” the army said in a statement.

Since the beginning of September, Ukraine claims to have reclaimed some 3,000 square kilometers, mainly in the Kharkov region.

On Sunday, power outages occurred in many areas in the east, north, south and center of the country, which Ukrainian officials attributed to the Russian attacks.

The Presidency said that thermal power plant No. 5, the country’s second largest thermal power plant, was affected near Kharkov.

Electricity supply was quickly restored in some affected areas.

Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Chief of the Presidential General Staff, said on Monday that 80% of electricity and water supplies in Kharkov have been restored.
