The 48-year-old inmate who filed a lawsuit in the US state of Oklahoma for allegedly torturing him with the song “Baby Shark” along with his colleagues was found dead in his cell.
The case was recorded in the early hours of Sunday, 11 when John Basco was found dead by a police officer patrolling the Oklahoma Detention Center cells.
The detainee’s cause of death has not yet been disclosed, but the detention center said in a statement that a doctor was called and tried to resuscitate the victim for ten minutes before declaring his death at 4am.
Basco was one of four detainees responsible for filing a lawsuit denouncing torture in November 2021.
At the time, they said, more than once in 2019 they were taken from the cells they lived in, taken to another room, placed in “stressful positions” and forced to listen to children’s music for three to four years. While he was handcuffed, there was no break for hours.
In the process, the detainees claimed that the sound level was loud enough to reverberate through the prison corridors.
