A Brazilian arrested in Brazil Rockville, Maryland (USA), after being identified by the Federal Police as a wanted suspect for the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl. Thomas Francis Donschat, 29, a Brazilian national, has issued an arrest warrant for him in Santa Catarina, where the crime will be committed since June 2020.

The arrest was made public this week by ICE (US Immigration and Customs Enforcement), but Thomas has been in custody since June 23, according to a statement released by the agency. Found by deportation authorities.

“This arrest is a significant victory for ICE Baltimore and our law enforcement partners,” said Lyle Boelens, industry director of operations. “Donschat escaped justice and tried to stay free by hiding in the US. His arrest should serve as a wake-up call for other individuals contemplating committing the same crime: justice knows no bounds.”

After Thomas escaped, the Brazilian Federal Police issued a warning to foreign authorities seeking help in finding and arresting the suspect. ICE said it had no information on the man’s date of entry to the US or his whereabouts during the time he was missing for more than two years.

According to the agency, no immigration officers contacted the Brazilian during this time. Hints of his location reached ICE only on June 15, in an anonymous tip, and he was arrested eight days after authorities reviewed the information.

Donschat does not have US citizenship and will remain in the custody of the country’s authorities only until the end of the extradition process to Brazil.
