New Mexico police are looking for a tiger cub that was illegally bred as a pet. The operation has been taking place since a search warrant was issued for the animal at two homes in the city of Albuquerque in August. The result of the police action was the seizure of a crocodile, drugs, gun and money – but the cat escaped and was never seen again.
It is not yet known whether he escaped or was in the hands of someone else.
According to the KRQE News website, the New Mexico Department of Game and Fisheries receives numerous calls from exotic animals living in poor conditions, such as the 10-foot alligator in the house.
Investigators believe the tiger was with someone “in New Mexico or a nearby state,” according to information provided by authorities.
It was believed that the animal is less than 1 year old and weighs a maximum of 27 kg – adult tigers can reach 200 kg.
On August 12, guards received a search warrant to search the two homes with the help of federal, state and local authorities. The tiger was not found during the search. The crocodile was taken to a wildlife facility for proper care.
Items seized in homes included US$40,000 in cash – more than R$50,000 in cash, 1kg of heroin, 5kg of cocaine, 22kg of marijuana, 17 guns including rifles. Carlos Giddings, 26, was arrested in a police operation.
