Ukrainian nuclear operator Energoatom accused Russia on Monday of bombing the industrial zone of the Pivdennoukrainsk plant in the south of the country.
“On September 19, 2022, at 00:20 local time, the Russian army bombed the industrial zone of the Pivdennoukrainsk nuclear power plant,” Energoatom said on Telegram.
“There was a powerful explosion just 300 meters from the reactors,” he added.
“Currently, the plant’s three reactors are operating on a regular basis,” the public operator said. The attack did not cause any casualties or injuries.
The bombing broke the glass of nearly 100 windows in the facility’s building and forced the facility’s three high-voltage lines to shut down for several minutes.
“Russia is putting the whole world in danger. We have to stop it before it’s too late,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who released a video from security cameras showing a massive explosion.
Another Ukrainian nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, occupied by Russian troops, has been bombed several times in recent months.
Kyiv and Moscow made mutual accusations about the bombings in Zaporizhzhia and the risk of causing a nuclear accident.
