Fast food chain McDonald’s partially reopened three stores in Kiev on Tuesday (20) after being closed for more than six months due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the American giant leaving Russia.
The group said it has opened its services only for “delivery” for now, “after discussions with Ukrainian leaders, security experts and suppliers.”
An AFP team noted that on Tuesday morning, several couriers were waiting outside one of the McDonald’s stores in the Ukrainian capital to take orders from customers.
“I think today (Tuesday) is going to be very hectic. The opening is at 9:00 (3:00 in Brasília) and I don’t think I’ll be resting today,” 19-year-old delivery man Maxim Khadap said this morning.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba applauded “a signal for international companies to (show) the opportunity to work in Ukraine despite the war.”
“Those three restaurants will fully open in October,” McDonald’s said in a statement.
According to the same source, seven stores in the capital, as well as other restaurants “in cities in the east of the country”, will reopen soon.
McDonald’s closed its stores in Ukraine on February 24, when the Russian occupation began.
In Russia, 850 workplaces were sold to businessman Alexander Govor, who launched the “Vkousno i Tochka” network in June.
