The broadcaster said the government of Nicaragua took the CNN signal off the air last night. The communication tool confirmed the loss of the signal on its Spanish website, and local authorities did not explain the reasons for the measure.

In one position, CNN says the press plays a “vital role” in a healthy democracy. “The Nicaraguan government disables our television signal, rejecting news and information from our network that Nicaraguans have trusted for over 25 years.”

The publisher said that the site will continue to broadcast with the signal. The statement was also read live by presenter Fernando Del Rincon.

“CNN en Español will continue to honor its responsibility to the people of Nicaragua by providing our news links on CNNEspanol.com so that they can access information that would not otherwise be available. CNN supports our chain’s reporting and reaffirms its commitment to truth and transparency.”
