Typhoon Talas left one dead in Japan

Typhoon Talas approached the coast of Japan on Saturday and, a week after four people were killed by another hurricane, caused heavy rain and landslides, killing one and injuring many.

A man died when a landslide swept his home in Kakegawa, headquartered in Shizuoka Prefecture, according to NHK state television and other local media reports.

According to NHK, another landslide in Hamamatsu in the same area resulted in minor injuries to three people.

The police did not immediately confirm these reports.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that at 6 a.m. Saturday (6:00 p.m. Friday in Brasília), the typhoon was 100 kilometers south of Shizuka and was moving in a northeasterly direction with gusts of up to 90 km per hour.

The agency warned of the danger of strong waves, torrential rain, landslides and flooding in central, eastern and northern parts of Japan, including Tokyo.

Last week, four people were killed and 151 injured as Typhoon Nanmadol passed through the southwest of the archipelago.
