A 39-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a great white shark while swimming on a beach in South Africa’s Plettenberg Bay. She was staying at a luxury resort in the area with her husband and four-year-old daughter. The two witnessed the attack.
The case was registered yesterday morning (25). Kimon Bisogno, who owns a restaurant in Cape Town, was just over 15 feet from the sand when it was attacked, according to the African nation’s National Oceanic Rescue Institute.
A witness to the international media stated that the businesswoman was in the water up to her waist when a wave “bred” the shark and quickly “the ocean was frying”.
He was pulled out of the water by rescuers, but was found dead before he even reached the hospital.
Beaches in the municipality were closed for investigation after the attack, according to the South African website News24.
Another white shark attack was recorded at the same location in June and one man died. At that time, the beach was closed for two days.
Earlier this month, the South African government issued a warning about increased shark activity in the area as a whale carcass approaches shore.
Friends and relatives of Kimon Bisogno mourned the death of the woman, known on social media for owning a pizzeria in Cape Town and idealizing a project that feeds the homeless with homemade pasta.
One of his friends said, “He was one of the best people to ever come into this world. He brought so much comfort to those who most needed love and support.”
