A 40-year-old man who was fatally bitten by a snake left a final heartbreaking message for his wife and daughter as he was about to die. Sebastian Wicker, land manager in Mozambique, was stung during a safari and managed to record a farewell to the family six hours before he died, having already lost consciousness while bidding farewell to his comrade and son.
Sebastian headed to an area inhabited by buffaloes, rhinos, lions and leopards. He was with his client, who took a dose of antidote with him before the victim went to Marromeu Hospital. With no further doses of the antidote available, he was taken by helicopter to Beira Private Hospital, but he did not survive.
His widow, Amanda, told the British Daily Record that she had even replied to the message, but that her husband did not have time to see her and received the news of her death a few minutes later.
“One of her coworkers called me crying and said she was dead. I burst into tears too. It’s still shocking,” says Amanda, who has seen her husband survive the attacks of other animals before.
Amanda said, “Sebastian has been attacked by buffaloes in the past, but such a snake attack is almost unheard of. It’s the first thing. The chance of being attacked by a snake is very small!” she said.
In addition to the loss itself, Amanda also reports that she is in so much pain thinking about the pain her partner felt before she died. “He died a very painful death and had to be given morphine. He was vomiting a lot and eventually had trouble breathing. His tongue was swollen and it was a horrible way to die.”
According to Amanda, Sebastian would be moving to Scotland in December as he longed to be around his family so he could see their baby son, Oskar, growing up nearby.
