The head of American diplomacy, Antony Blinken, assured Tuesday (27th) that the United States and its allies will “never recognize” the annexation of Ukrainian territory by Russia.
Officials of Russia and the regions it occupied in Ukraine said, “We and many other countries have made this clear. We will not, never will, recognize the annexation of Ukrainian territory by Russia.” He won “yes” in the referendums on the annexation of the four regions of Ukraine.
Blinken reiterated President Joe Biden’s threat that the United States would “rapidly impose significant additional costs on Russia” for continuing the referendums.
“It’s important to remember what happened here. Russia invaded Ukraine, took the territory and carried out a diabolical plan to displace the local population in part of the captured territory,” he said.
The foreign minister added that some people were targeted for deportation and others “just disappeared”.
“So they bring the Russians in, they set up puppet governments and they hold the referendum and anyway they manipulate the result and then they claim the territory belongs to Russia,” he said.
