Twitter is having a chaotic week. Both from a technical point of view, with two global declines in less than a week, and from the point of view of its internal management. The latest wave of layoffs, last week, still affected more than 10% of employees survivors after the brutal cuts of the last few months.

But Elon Musk takes no prisoners in his quest to make Twitter viable at all costs. The latest controversy involving the tycoon has Halli Thorleifsson as its victim, the Icelandic designer who spent days trying to access the internal system of Unsuccessful Twitter.

After not receiving any notification from the human resources department and fearing the worst, Thorleifsson decided to ask the company’s CEO directly via the social network. “9 days ago they restricted my access, along with others 200 employees from Twitter HR is unable to confirm if I am an employee. You haven’t replied to my emails. Maybe if a lot of people retweet me, you reply to me?” the tweet reads.

After a few hours, the tycoon answered with another question: “What job did you do?” The designer then told him that in order to make this information public, “he would have to do it break confidentialityWith Musk’s approval, Thorleifsson made a list of the different duties he performed within the company.

The Tesla owner also replied that without pictures as proof of his work, this would never have happened. “We haven’t hired design positions for 4 months,” he added in his response, accompanying her shortly after a scene from a movie in the form of a meme.

The conversation It didn’t take long for him to get all kinds of reactions. And answers. Shortly thereafter, Musk deleted some of his tweets and AlexCoen, former Twitter employee, shared a screenshot of the entire conversation. It was then that the tycoon wanted to give his version of events.

“The reality is this guy (who is independently wealthy) hasn’t had any real work, he claimed as an excuse that he had a disability that prevented him from typing, but at the same time he was tweeting. Can’t say I have much respect for him for that.” replied the CEO. “But he was fired? No, you can’t be fired if you weren’t working before!”

Everything seems to indicate that Houghton’s comment made Musk think, who said that after his speech he made “a video call with Halli to find out what is real and what they told him”. An hour later, he publicly apologized for his “misinterpretation of his situation.” Furthermore, the CEO assured that the Icelandic “is considering staying on Twitter.”

Thorleifsson joined the company shortly after acquiring his company in 2020, in a management role that didn’t require him to spend too many hours on the computer. In addition to his role as an entrepreneur, Halli is a major philanthropist in Iceland and was named Person of the Year in 2022 for his project to improve the accessibility of public spaces for wheelchair users.
