Police arrested a Calgary high school student Wednesday morning. He complained to them because he had a gun at school.
Shortly before 10 am Wednesday, Calgary police received a call reporting that a student at Bowness High School, northwest of the city, was in possession of a gun.
Police said they sent officers to the scene who arrested the student and recovered the gun he was holding.
The event happened during entrance hours, so many students were aware of the heavy police presencesaid Jana Macdonald, the establishment’s director.
School insurance
The Bowness School leadership wants to be reassured in spite of everything. After the incident, he sent a letter to the parents of the students to assure them of his commitment to safety inside the establishment.
” The police acted quickly and classes were delayed in no time. Nature [les parents] that we cannot share the details of the investigation at this time […] We take our commitment to student safety very seriously. “
He added that schools must adhere to established safety procedures to deal with this type of situation.
Parental concern
The assurances provided by the school did not seem convincing to Blair Sorge, the father of a student at the school. He said he was overwhelmed by the way this incident and other emergencies were handled at the facility this year.
He added that the letter addressed by the school direction to the parents of the students was vague. Moreover, according to him, it is not included nothing was mentioned […] gravity of the incident.
” You can’t tell us there’s someone at school with a gun? Because I would have picked up my son in a heartbeat. This is absolutely not something I want to revive. “
Blair Sorge, who believes the school should be closed, plans to file a lawsuit against the administration for its handling of the incident.
Police are asking anyone with information relevant to the case to contact the authorities.
Aven Johnston, a student of 10at person who spoke to CBC/Radio-Canada, said he did not know the real intentions of the arrested student, but he thinks the latter acted in this way probably just to get attention.
