Saskatchewan Health Minister Paul Merriman is awaiting recommendations from the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) before distributing a second booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine to more people across the province.
He introduced it on Wednesday when the
NACI announced earlier this week that a fourth dose of the vaccine is strictly recommended for people aged 80 and over, as well as for people living in long-term care facilities.According to Paul Merriman, we will have to wait a bit to see if the fourth dose can be distributed to the entire population.
” It was a process, as it was done before. The recommendations come from NACI and we consult with public health experts in the province. They make a decision and give us their recommendation. “
The fourth dose is not recommended for the general population
Today, it is available to Saskatchewanians who received an organ donation three months after their third dose injection as well as to people living in long -term care facilities.
Supported by Saskatchewan Health Authority Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Cory Neudorf the idea that a fourth dose of this vaccine should not be distributed to the general population in Saskatchewan.
” We need more scientific information before proceeding with the distribution of this second booster dose to the general population in Saskatchewan “
Dr. said. Cory Neudorf that people who are vulnerable to certain diseases should be given priority.
