Two Toronto police officers have been charged with indiscipline in connection with the death of a student

In Toronto, two police officers face punishment following their trial in a disciplinary tribunal by their employer in connection with the death of a student last year in Brampton. The alleged theft of a seemingly fake watch sold in Kijiji will be the subject of police pursuit, according to documents from which Radio-Canada obtained a copy.

Chadd Facey, who studied psychology, is better known in the Toronto area as a hip-hop artist under the pseudonym DPA Face.

According to court documents, he died badly under mysterious circumstances on April 26, 2021 at Brampton Civic Hospital after being confronted earlier by two police officers, who were out of service.

Radio-Canada received from the Toronto Police Service the documents Star in Toronto is acquired exclusively. Chadd Facey has however not been named anywhere, but the daily indicates that it has confirmed his identity.

It is not known, however, whether the actions of agents Gurmakh Benning and Calvin Au had any effect on the death of the 19-year-old young man.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has opened an investigation into the case, with some similarities to the Dafonte Miller case in Whitby in 2016.

However, no criminal charges were filed against Constable Benning and Au. The documents show thatSpecial Investigations Unit however, was not notified until four months later.

The two police officers are currently accused of professional misconduct following an internal investigation for notable failure in their duty to document the young man’s confrontation and report it to their superiors.

Benning and Au face six charges, including negligence, insubordination and dishonorable conduct, under the provincial Police Services Act.

None of the allegations, however, have been substantiated in a court of law or disciplinary tribunal.

Benning and Au were previously separated for the first time in Toronto Police Court on March 22 and 29, 2022.

The documents point out that the action of the two accused coincided with the investigation of another police department.

We learned, for example, that Agent Benning called 911, but without naming himself, aboutan Apple Watch transaction went wrong with Kijiji.

Also according to documents, Constable Benning traveled to Brampton to buy the said watch after seeing it being sold in Kijiji.

Officer Au reportedly decided to accompany him near the intersection of the Bellechasse trail and Highway 50.

Two cops would have chased the seller after realizing the watch was in fact a copy.

While talking to Chadd Facey, Agent Benning allegedly asked him to return his money. In the face of his refusal, Au got out of the car and chased the child on foot before it was pinned to the ground.

The physical confrontation is suddenly delayed when someone passes by who intervenes in the scene. The two agents would have escaped, leaving Chadd Facey alone on the ground.

The young man’s friends would have noticed that he was feeling unwell and would have called paramedics. The student was taken to the hospital, where he died a few hours later.

Brampton Civic Hospital called Peel Regional Police at the time of Chadd Facey’s death, who immediately opened an investigation. Investigators found Constable Benning’s number on the student’s cell phone.

The documents stated that agents Au and Benning would have participated in the police investigation into their colleagues, but they would also not have notified their employer.

Finally, it is not mentioned that Agent Benning recovered his money during the filing, but he would still have had the Apple Watch, as the prosecution accuses him of failing to treat the jewel as a piece of evidence.
