Paleontologists have confirmed that the signs observed by a diner on the patio of a restaurant in the Sichuan province in southwest China, they are dinosaur footprints dating back to the early Cretaceous period.
On July 10, Ou Hongtao was having dinner at a restaurant in Leshan City and noticed a few special dents in the ground from the restaurant patio.
Ou, who has a keen interest in paleontology, speculated that the signs were likely dinosaur footprints and contacted Xing Lida, an associate professor at the China University of Geosciences.

On July 16, Xing led a team of fellow paleontologists and conducted an investigation of the site. The marks were later identified as the footprints of two brontosaurs in the early Cretaceous.
According to Xing, the discovery is significant because it is the first time that the dinosaur footprints are found in the city of Leshan.
“We can see six pretty good fossil footprints of sauropod dinosaurs left on the restaurant patio. Sauropods, a species of herbivorous dinosaurs with neck and tail of immediately recognizable length that lived in the age of dinosaurs, can measure between 40 and 50 meters in his adulthood, ”Xing explained.

The marks are the footprints left by two sauropod dinosaurs eight meters long, which moved along the river in the arid environment of ancient Leshan about 100 million years ago.
