Mercedes-Benz added a new massive review call so far this year. This time, the brand asks more than 292,000 customers in the United States to stop driving their vehicles because of a defect it could cause brake failure.
The brand didn’t even consider the possibility that the owners would approach the workshop with their vehicles; ask them not to use them and offer free towing so they can be transferred and tested at the corresponding dealership.
The recall, the company’s third in 2022, is affecting models ML-Class, GL-Class and R-Classproduced between 2006 and 2012. And there are already nearly 1.4 million cars that must or should visit the service for various safety -related inconveniences.

Emergency call
In documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for its acronym in English), the German automaker reported that the affected units could suffer a decrease in brake performanceoo
The explanation relates to moisture problems in the brake booster housing, causing corrosion and a possible vacuum leak affecting the braking system.
“In rare cases, hard braking can cause mechanical damage to the brake booster and it may not be possible to stop vehicles with the brake pedal,” Mercedes-Benz said in the statement.
One of the affected models, the R-Class, was launched at the New York Auto Show in 2005. It is no longer in production.
Despite the serious setback, no accidents or injuries were reported.
The brand explained that the impellers will be tested in the workshop, parts replaced as needed. The owners, for their part, will be notified in writing from May 27.
In this regard, Mercedes-Benz added that in case the repairs cannot be carried out immediately, dealers will assist in finding replacement vehicles for the owners.
The C-Class was one of 10 models affected by a massive revision call in January this year.
Background in 2022
In January and February, Mercedes-Benz issued two massive fire warnings on some of its models.
The first mass appeal in the world included some 800,000 units of 10 different models produced between January 2017 and October 2021, due to possible leakage in the water pump.
On the other hand, in February, a new recall affected nearly 300,000 units of the models E-class Y CLS-Class built between 2015 and 2019. In both cases, the affected units were equipped with turbodiesel engines.
