There is probably no other model in the world as easily identifiable as the Ford Mustang. Since its appearance in 1964, it has become the benchmark for “muscle cars” in the United States, achieving extraordinary sales in its first six years.
The seventh generation, launched a few days ago, preserves the Mustang genome in all its conception: design, naturally aspirated V8 engine and manual gearbox. Although a detail leaked during the presentation that caught the attention of many: a drawing by its designer, Christopher Stevens, showing a Mustang with a body four doors.
The alarms were triggered by the most purist who had already had to endure the Mustang by adopting under his surname the electric SUV that the brand had launched at the end of 2019: the Mustang Mach-E.
An idea or a preview?
It is important to note that the sketch of the four-door Mustang appears in a sequence showing different versions of the new generation (with different fronts and even five exhausts), albeit for the moment none come true.
Particularly of the design, it must be recognized that it is so well integrated that it is necessary to look carefully to notice the rear doors. His proposal respects the coupé style and takes up the fashion of the two-tone bodywork, with pillars and roof painted in black to create a floating effect.
Two no less important points to mention is that, on the one hand, the brand has decided to give up this type of silhouette practically all over the world; on the other hand, that there is a big difference between a render and a sketch published by the company itself, an indication that the Mustang family could continue to grow.
Without going further, it is not the first time that Ford thinks of having a Mustang sedan: in 1964, with the first generation, it was taken seriously, but in the end it never saw the light.
