A new strike, this time to “cover” the workers who had to work the night shift after the final between Argentina and France, Operations at the Fate and Bridgestone tire factories shut down Sunday night. The provision was established by art Tire Union (SUTNA), a few hours after the start of a 24-hour shutdown in the three factories from which the guild organized this wednesday.

in a handful of days (three interruptions in less than two weeksif we add what happened in Bridgestone on Monday and Tuesday the 13th) everything seems to have returned zero sheets regarding the laborious agreement that the three tire manufacturers and the union chaired by Alejandro Crespo they had arrived by 30 September.

That deal, which included a bonus of 100,000 pesos, a salary increase of 66% and an anti-inflation trigger clauseit was after almost six months of conflict which has led to an unprecedented shortage of tires in the country.

Towards the end, in the last week of September, Ford and Toyota had to stop their production, while Renault and Nissan had already stopped previously for several shifts due to lack of covers.

The return of the conflict now, on the eve of the Holidays, was initially for the alleged dismissal of workers from the Bridgestone factory. But after the force measure, last week at the Llavallol plant, SUTNA issued a statement accusing the three producers of “ignoring” the September agreement and ordering a new measure of strength that will begin this Wednesdayuntil the next day.

In addition to the rejection of the companies, the return of the conflict is generating “concern” in the automotive sector, many of whom are customers of local establishments Bridgestone, Pirelli and, to a lesser extent, also Destiny.

“We are attentive to anything that may have to do with our value chain and obviously it is an issue that we look at, even if it is not up to us,” he said on Monday. Rodrigo Perez GrazianoDirector of stellantisthe car manufacturer that brings together the factories of Fiat Y Peugeot. Stellantis is the only automaker in the country that has the same parity with two different corporations (UOM in the Peugeot plant of El Palomar and SMATA Córdoba in the case of Fiat), a fact that Pérez Graziano highlighted, during a year-end toast that the automaker made this Monday.

“We we are used to negotiating with strong unionsso that this conflict from an industry which is supplier of our industry we look at it with great concern‘ said the manager.

At another automaker, whose production depends almost entirely on locally made tires, they chose to ignore the immediate conflict, as if they were hoping – quietly – that it was a wrestling match for a year-end bonus.

“We will enter the maintenance phase in a week and we give staff holidays. We’ll see later,” said its manager, off.

In another of the car companies, despite the fact that produce with imported coversThey stressed that a conflict of this magnitude never breaks free. “We It hits us on the aftermarket side. So we’re still being careful,” one of its executives said.

According to SUTNA, the trigger for this measure of force was the “layoffs” at the Bridgestone plant. After a 48-hour strike in that plant, the union chaired by Crespo denounced the alleged “arrogant and arbitrary behavior” of the other two factories in the sector, Fate and Pirelli.

For this SUTNA has requested the total stop of the activities in the three plants from 10am on Wednesday 21 until the shift starts tomorrow Thursday.

This new measure of strength was denounced by Fate in harsh terms. “Fate, the largest tire manufacturer in Argentina, rejects the attempt by the SUTNA union to involve the entire sector in a discussion which I would have to deal with another of the companiesHe added: “It is incomprehensible that the union, after promoting a conflict that affected the tire supply in the country for more than five months, to fall back into these impeding modes of work and production”.
