New tax: airline tickets will be more expensive from Monday 9 January

The national government made the new one official this Friday Aviation security feewhich had been included in the 2023 Budget, which will have an impact on the final price of airline tickets for international, regional and domestic flights issued from next Monday, January 9th.

The provision, published in the Official Gazette with resolution 3 of the Ministry of National Security, establishes that the fee must be paid by “passengers who embark international, regional and/or national flights of airports or aerodromes belonging to the National Airport System of the Argentine Republic, on board a commercial or non-commercial aircraft, with a scheduled, non-scheduled or private flight”.

“The The entry into force of this Resolution will occur three (3) days after its publication. in the Official Gazette and will be applicable to tickets issued later to it”, specifies article 8 of the regulation which bears the signature of the head of the security portfolio, Aníbal Fernández.

Annex 1 of the regulation sets out the rate value according to the flight category: in international and regional flights will cost USD 1.40 per passengerMeanwhile a domestic flights will be located at $260.

Although the fare for international flights and regional flights will be fixed in dollars, the regulation provides that in case of payment in pesos “the seller’s exchange rate will be taken at the close of the day before boarding, fixed by the Banco de la Argentine Nation”.

Article 3 establishes that “they remain exempt from payment” the “minors who had not completed three years”, “the holders of diplomatic passports“, the “passengers in transit“and who”embark on aircraft with national or provincial public registration such as military, medical, police, customs, in compliance with their specific mission or on medical aircraft”.

The no. 27,701 delegates to Ministry of National Security the power to establish the amount of the Fee of Aviation Security, but may not exceed 0.25% of the basic salary of the hierarchical rank of First Officer of the General Grade of the Police Staff of the Airport Security Police.

“The airlines and/or those in charge of the sale of airline tickets will act as collection agents of the aviation security fee, and will have to account for and record the amounts collected in the manner and conditions determined by the regulation”, the Resolution specific.

This new tax was incorporated into the 2023 Budget approved last year.

The controversial article was presented by the deputy Paula Penacca, from La Cámpora, with the aim of funding the airport security police. In itself, the Tax on Aviation Security was approved fairly in MPs, collecting 123 votes in favor against 122 against.
