Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro made changes to his cabinet’s key portfolios this Friday appointed a new chancellor and the president of the state oil company PDVSA.
He appointed to command the chancellery Yvan Gil Pinto, who served as head of Mission of Venezuela to the European Union, replacing Carlos Faría, in office since May 2022.
Gil Pinto comes to the portfolio at a time when Maduro is trying rebuild its international recognition. In recent months, he has managed to re-establish ties with the recently revamped governments of Brazil and Colombia. He also got US rapprochement when Russian oil stopped circulating because of the war in Ukraine.
Gil Pinto is the fourth foreign minister of Venezuela from 2021, preceded by Jorge Arreaza, the current ambassador to Colombia Félix Plasencia y Faría.
